LexisNexis Launches Essential New Guide to Domain Name Law

September 21, 2007; 09:50 AM

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LexisNexis, a leading provider of information and services solutions, today announced the release of McGrady on Domain Names: A Global Guide to Disputes, Registration, and Maintenance – a new, practical online and print resource for attorneys advising clients on issues and problems involving domain names worldwide.

This new publication is authored by Paul D. McGrady, Jr., a shareholder in the Chicago office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP who specializes in intellectual property and information technology counsel. Available at the LexisNexis online bookstore, the new volume provides an essential resource for attorneys representing brand owners, parties opposing brand owners, registrars, registries and ancillary service providers in the domain name industry. The publication contains critical domain name data from around the globe and all available data for every country, in a consistently organized format. McGrady on Domain Names also identifies areas where no information is yet available, providing thousands of direct links to domain registries and related websites where legal practitioners can find and examine developments as soon as new information becomes available.

According to the WHOIS protocol system, there are more than 97 million registered domain names and approximately 1.2 million are added to the list each day.

“We’re committed to providing the most comprehensive and practical research content and tools for the legal profession, and the new McGrady on Domain Names publication does just that,” said Peter Vanderheyden, vice president and managing director for Global Intellectual Property at LexisNexis. “With McGrady, lawyers can avoid spending many frustrating hours searching the Internet and instead find all the information they need quickly and easily within this resource.”

Presented in a clear, easy-to-use format, McGrady on Domain Names includes definitive guidance for all countries and all generic domain names.

Topics include:

  • Formal and informal dispute procedures, with analysis
  • Extensions currently associated with each jurisdiction
  • Registry contact information
  • Access to lists of known accredited registrars
  • Registration and transfer processes and procedures
  • Renewal terms and processes
  • Chapter appendices setting out forms, registry policies, examples, and other hard-to-find, practical information
  • Thousands of direct links to domain registries and other important sources of information on the Web

“McGrady on Domain Names is a much needed, comprehensive treatise on a rapidly changing field of law,” said Michael D. Adams, associate with Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP. “This resource is a must have for attorneys who represent brand owners and clients that utilize the Internet.”

McGrady on Domain Names is the most recent product offering from LexisNexis tailored to a specific area of practice – an important initiative that is part of the company’s commitment to deliver Total Practice Solutions to its law firm customers.
