Arnhem -- SIDN, the .nl registry, will launch numerical
.nl domain names at the end of January 2008. A numerical domain name is
a domain name that consists exclusively of digits (e.g. 1234.nl) or of
a combination of digits and a hyphen (e.g. 12-34.nl). From 1 till 14
December SIDN will organize a sunrise for the holders of registered
Benelux and Community trademarks and of trade names. During this period
they can pre-register the .nl numerical domain name that corresponds to
their right.
Starting today all information concerning the sunrise will be published on the SIDN website www.sidn.nl/numeric.
All information with regards to i.e. the terms and conditions, the
sunrise process, and who is eligible to apply may be found there. We
have decided to launch .nl numeric domain names using a sunrise
process, to avoid abusive registrations to the maximum extent possible.
Roelof Meijer, CEO SIDN: “One result of the Domeinnaamdebat 2006 was
the advice to introduce numerical domain names, which we now act upon.
The applications can only – like all .nl domain names – be entered via
a registered SIDN registrar. We expect to finish the complete sunrise
process in January 2008, after which registration of numerical domain
names will be open for everyone. So you if you want to you can for
example register your phone number of birthdates as .nl domain name!”
