Joel Ohman contacted me regarding his new domaining tools website, Domain Superstar and I thought it might be worth checking out the tools he is providing to domainers. I should say up front that I am not getting paid to make this post nor did I sign up for the affiliate program. Domain Superstar is a joint effort from both Joel and John G. and has really just made its debut.

Type-in traffic finder

The type-in traffic finder uses the Google AdWords keyword tool to find potential domain names and then checks to see if they are registered for any keyword you enter. Domain names that are not registered are highlighted in green. It is certainly nice to have 2 in 1 tools like this which saves you copying potential domain names from the AdWords tool to a registrar.

The catch for me is that this is a well picked over list by domainers and the chance of finding a great name is relatively low unless you are in a niche that is not exploited yet. I do like the idea though of taking the results of one search and seeding it for a new search to find more peripheral domain names. There are possibilities here for those that think a little outside the box.

Dropped domains tool

Almost every domainer has a favorite way of catching dropping domains but the tools on this website give you another alternative. The tools certainly seems to work very nicely and quickly. A few searches will show you the rubbish people register as domains but sifting through this can yield some valuable domains from time to time.

User Dashboard

Perhaps the feature I liked the most was the user dashboard. Being able to quickly move between tools is very helpful and I didn’t have to jump from one website to another or to/from Excel. The real potential of this website, in my opinion, could be this integration of tools.

As a side note for all developers: if you provide a phone number and street address on your website, it can add to the professional image of a website offering services. This increases the level of trust and increases the number of sign-ups for the services you provide.

So check out Domain Superstar and let me know what you think. I am sure Joel would welcome any feedback through his website also.
