In a landmark domain name purchase harking back to the days of the Dot Com Boom, a Florida technology company purchased cameras.com for $1,500,000 at auction yesterday.

The domain name monetization company Parked.com, named for its service that allows domain name holders to earn money with their domain name traffic by parking the domains on advertising pages, won the bidding.

"We were thrilled to obtain cameras.com," CEO of Parked.com Sigmund Solares said. "It's one of the top producing retail domain names. We plan to apply the same winning technology that increases the profitability of our clients' domains to cameras.com. Right now, we also are considering whether to grow the existing retail component of the domain name, which will be an exciting new expansion for the company."

The ownership of Cameras.com, formerly owned by Steve Brettler of Cambridge, MA, currently is being transferred to Parked.com LLC, Solares said. The new registrant information should be publicly available through any WHOIS ownership lookup database later this week.

Parked.com currently manages a portfolio of more than 800,000 domain names, and provides relevant, paid advertising to visitors of those sites. The company's revenues are shared through a competitive commission agreement with its more then 3,500 participating webmasters who own the majority of the domain names under Park's control.
