EURid, the European registry for .eu, announced on Monday that registrations for the .eu top-level Internet domain continued to grow during the third quarter of this year.

  • New registrations stayed strong, with an average of 2760 new .eu domain names registered each business day during the month of September.
  • Third-quarter renewal rates stayed above 80 percent.
  • Actual use of .eu domains increased by 23 percent between the second and third quarters, according to DNS queries. The use of .eu domains for email and websites rose as well.
  • The number of registered domain names grew by 4.7 percent compared to the second quarter.

“The growing use of .eu domain names is a sign of the domain’s increasing acceptance as a mainstream domain,” Marc Van Wesemael, managing director of EURid. “We see that a growing number of individuals and organisations recognize the benefits of having a .eu domain name.”

According to the most recent analysis, each .eu registrant has 2.6 domain names on average, down from 2.9 in the beginning of the year. These and other statistics appear in EURid’s Quarterly Progress Report to the European Commission, which can be found on the EURid website (see eurid's quarterly_3-07_071116.pdf)
