The Planet Receives ICANN Accreditation to Provide Domain Name ServicesApril 28, 2005; 11:38 PM “Receiving ICANN accreditation shows that the industry knows it can expect best in class solutions from The Planet,” said Sam Fleitman, Vice President of Information Systems for The Planet. “It extends our offerings to cover even more of customers’ end-to-end hosting needs.” ICANN manages the Domain Name System, overseeing the distribution of IP addresses and domain names to ensure each address is unique and each domain name maps to the correct address. Accredited registrars must meet ICANN’s standards for performance of registration functions and enter into an accreditation agreement detailing Registrar Services policies and procedures. Through Orbit, The Planet’s existing customers can purchase, register, transfer and manage domain names and services. Those services include choosing name servers, editing Whois information, changing IP addresses, setting mail servers, locking domains and editing all domain service information. The Planet will soon add unlimited e-mail forwarding, forwarding to any website and URL Masking for redirecting domain names. “We’re pleased to give customers more control over this dimension of hosting,” continued Mr. Fleitman. “By making their domain management easy and integrating it with their entire solution, we’re helping them concentrate their resources and attention.” New .com and .net domain names are immediately available for $5.99 per year of registration. The Planet will soon offer additional Top Level Domains (TLDs), such as .org, .info, .biz, and .us. Additionally, The Planet is offering free, 24/7 domain services support, by phone, e-mail and through Orbit. |
