Afilias Successfully Launches Registry System Supporting .MOBI Domain

DUBLIN, Ireland - Afilias Limited announced at the close of the .MOBI Industry Sunrise Registration Period, that it has successfully completed a trouble-free launch of the registry system supporting the .MOBI sponsored top-level domain (sTLD). This marks the first "from scratch" registry launch for Afilias since it opened registration for the .INFO generic TLD in 2001.

Afilias built a customized registry system for mTLD Top-Level Domain Ltd., the sponsoring organization for the .MOBI TLD, in order to support the unique policy needs for a domain created to facilitate the use of the Internet on mobile devices. These customized features include Sunrise registration periods (both an industry Sunrise completed in May 2006 and an unrestricted trademark Sunrise period scheduled for June 2006), premium domain registration, and a public land rush scheduled for August 2006. The world-class .MOBI registry system has been built to handle expected large volumes of traffic in the Internet's newest name space, and uses the open source database PostgreSQL.
