July 14, 2006; 03:37 AM pcNames.com, a recently trademarked name, is a free site dedicated to
helping users find domains quickly. They have tools for 3-character,
dictionary, available, deleted, expired, and pre-release domains. And
now they have released a new tool which looks up domains as you type.
Few other sites have recently come out with tools similar to this ajax
domain lookup. What makes this one different is it's speed, accuracy,
and information given. As characters are typed, results are given
instantly for com, net, org, info, biz, and us showing each tld as
available, taken, or expired. To be able lookup domains while you type,
www.pcNames.com keeps a database of all registered domains which is updated twice daily.
During the first week this tool (www.pcNames.com/check/)
was online pcNames added a user comment box to see if the concept was
useful. Within hours the comments started rolling in such as "this is
hot!", "Super Cool. Keep up the amazing work!", "Truely Amazing. By far
the most powerful domain tool on the Internet".
AJAX is defined by wikipedia as a "web development technique for
creating interactive web applications. The intent is to make web pages
feel more responsive by exchanging small amounts of data with the
server behind the scenes, so that the entire web page does not have to
be reloaded each time the user makes a change. This is meant to
increase the web page's interactivity, speed, and usability.” pcNames
has implemented ajax into all their online applications.
As well as creating this new tool, pcNames has made many enhancements
to their other domain search tools. One of which is the ability to
search up to 8 keywords at a time in any of their 3 main search tools
(Available, Expired, Pre-Release). For example, if a user is looking
for a domain about ‘cars’, they can search for 'car, auto, truck,
drive, race, racecar, fordtrucks, ferrari'. The system will first get
every variation of each keyword (ie: drive, drives, driven). Then with
each keyword and it's variation, searches the entire database sorting
all the domains found by an advanced ranking algorithm to return the
very best domains first.
