COPENHAGEN, Denmark/EWORLDWIRE/Oct. 1, 2008 --- With the Dot Com (.com)
considered a dated property, it is the Dot.Me domain extension that's
sparking the imagination of Netizens worldwide. In a recently held,
live online domain auction as part of the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Conference in
New York City, domain names worth nearly $3 million were sold, with the
new domain extension .Me as the star of the show. The Date.Me domain name captured the highest bid of the popular .Me domains - at a whopping $70,000.
Other popular domains landed Love.Me, Buy.Me, Ask.Me, and Marry.Me, all seized by bids that also went through the roof.
Before the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Conference, the highest bid of any .Me
domain name was for Insure.Me, at $68,000 in a recently held, landrush
auction of non-premium domain names - where .Me domains sold for over
$2 million. After witnessing the success of .Me domain name online auctions,
Mark Boost, managing director of leading U.K. domain registration
company, LCN.com, said that the public has "seen the .ME domain launch
to be one of the most successful in history of the domain registration
industry. Both businesses and individuals rushed to register their
chosen .ME extension when open registration went live on July 17, and I
would envisage huge prices being paid for the premium .ME domains."
GoDaddy.com, the world's giant in the field of domain name
registration, reported that it received over 20,000 different dot .Me
registration requests within the first 24 hours."
According to Founder and CEO Bob Parsons of domain giant
GoDaddy.com Corporation, to the best of the company's knowledge, that
volume quite handily breaks any previous record of registrations within
the first twenty-four hours.
Within the first few minutes of opening of the registration in
July, over 5,000 domain names were purchased worldwide as both
individuals and businesses alike rushed to secure their preferred .ME
extension. The registrants grew exponentially, and within two weeks of
opening, more than 100,000 domain names had owners.
To the best of NG Intermarketing's Helle Staal's knowledge, "There
has never before been a success like this in the domain registration
history. Who is registrating all the .Me domains? If you look at the
WHOIS at the top, .Me names - based on the auction sales price -
high-profile CEOs and business owners as well as domain investors are
securing the names, which makes the .Me domains even more interesting."
"With the allure of the new .Me domains, it will not take long
before we see the first .Me TV commercials and .Me Web sites popping up
all over the Internet. We all know the Internet is all about
'YouAnd.Me.' The stage has been set for the Internet's new record
darling: dot .ME."
