LAS VEGAS, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- CTIA --
dotMobi, the company behind .mobi - the only Internet address created
specifically for locating content that works on all mobile phones -
today announced the allocation of the first two-letter mobile Internet
domain to the Nevada Commission on Tourism (NCOT): http://nv.mobi.
Representing its official state abbreviation, nv.mobi joins the Nevada Commission on Tourism's already successful http://nvski.mobi and http://nvroads.mobi sites in extending their "Travel Nevada" program to the mobile phone. Launching April 1, http://nv.mobi will enable users to access events, city overview pages, things to do, lodging, weather and to request a Visitor Guide.
"Given that Nevada's number one industry is tourism, it's clear that
the Nevada Commission on Tourism is a leader in reaching new and
expanded audiences - like the growing audience using the mobile Web,"
said Trey Harvin, CEO of dotMobi. "By using a .mobi domain to help
their more than 50 million annual visitors easily find their mobile Web
site, the NCOT is showing that they understand both the goodwill value
and the monetary value of giving their audience a positive mobile
experience - no matter what handset or operator a traveler is using."
"Nevada is proud to be on the cutting edge of this new technology
that couldn't be more convenient for the traveler," Lt. Gov. Brian K.
Krolicki, Nevada Commission on Tourism chair, said. "We reach out to
people around the world, and what better way to put tourist information
at their fingertips than with mobile sites visitors can access
anywhere, anytime."
This year, dotMobi began allocating .mobi domain names with one and
two alphanumeric characters, such as q.mobi, k9.mobi, 53.mobi or
nv.mobi. These short names are highly sought after by companies who
want to extend their brand with brief, memorable Web addresses. dotMobi
is one of the very few registries who have made one and two character
names available. These short domain names give brands an upper hand in
supporting mobile phone users who do not want to type long URL
addresses into their phone browser for viewing mobile content.
Companies can submit their interest in a one or two character .mobi domain by visiting http://dotmobi.mobi/onechar.
dotMobi responds to requests from interested brands that provide
specific concepts for the .mobi domain requested. All formal applicants
will then be required to complete a proposal and contract process.
