With all the different domain name options what can make a domain famous and worth being bought/sold in the aftermarket? Some people look at the domain to see if it has instant recognition or its branding potential. In the case of Misc.info ( http://misc.info ) both of these things where present as “Misc. info/Miscellaneous information” is a very well used and understood phrase which gives instant recognition and because of its unique neutral meaning almost any brand could be created using it.

According to the DN Journal ( http://www.dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm ) there has been at least 6 other major dot info sales ranging from $7,000 for Movie.info to $35,000 for Dubai.info. While 100’s of dot com domains are sold every year very few dot info domains have made it into the resell world. The sale price of Misc.info has asked not to be publicly announced, but the new owner Stephen Noton said “the price was irrelevant as I instantly fell in love with the concept of Miscellaneous Information and how it ties so well into my both my work and private life”.

What will become of the Misc.info website well the new owner Stephen Noton currently keeps a corporate profile on his company site ( http://www.Adverted.com ) and said “I bought the Misc.info name so that I could create a personal site about my life, family and listing the various activities I get up to daily”. He has also said that it will include insights into his work in the SEO/Search Engine Optimization and Internet advertising world. The Misc.info site is set to go live on July 1st, 2009 which is also Canada Day, purposely timed as Stephen Noton is a very proud Canadian.

The future of other dot info success stories might be not to far off as Afilias the governing body hopes to auction off the unclaimed domains that where blocked in the sunrise period back when the dot info domain started in 2001. By releasing more of these high value, highly brandable domains should further help interest in the dot info extension, create a few more popular dot info sites and help bring in future value for more dot info names in the aftermarket.
