SurfControl Alerts Customers to Malicious Email
By Derek Iwasiuk SCOTTS VALLEY, CALIF. – SurfControl plc (LSE: SRF), the global leader in Internet protection, today alerts customers that its Threat Analysts have identified a malicious email targeting Brazilians that claims to be from the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral, which is the highest body of the Brazilian Electoral Court. The message is written in Portuguese and the rough translation informs the user that a vote was cancelled and they need to click on the link in the message and open the file when prompted to review the irregularity. If a user follows the instructions in the email and opens the file, a Trojan Downloader is installed. At the time of this alert, protection for this threat has been added to the SurfControl Web Filter, SurfControl E-mail Filter and Enterprise Threat Shield databases.
