dotMobi Advisory Group Announces New Steering Committee to Drive Key Mobile Web Initiatives in 2008


Membership grows to over 100 members; New Steering Committee draws active participation from leading global organizations in the mobile web arena

Dublin, Ireland (PRWEB) February 4, 2008 -- The dotMobi Advisory Group (MAG) today announced the results of recent elections for seats to the MAG Steering Committee. The new MAG Steering Committee consists of key industry executives nominated and elected from the following thirteen (13) global MAG member companies: Akmin Technologies, Boomcast Entertainment Corporation, Carlson Marketing Worldwide, GoDaddy, iLoop Mobile, Millennial Media, Mobility.mobi, Nokia, QuickPlay Media, SinglePoint, Smaato, Sony and The Weather Channel. The MAG membership charter calls for a maximum of thirteen (13) MAG Steering Committee members.

"2007 has been a busy and highly productive year for the MAG which has seen its membership increase from less than 20 in the early part of the year to over 100 active members at this point in time," noted Michael J. O'Farrell, Chair and Executive Director of the dotMobi Advisory Group. "The distinguished line up of companies recently elected to the MAG Steering Committee is a strong vote of confidence in the MAG, the .mobi domain, the dotMobi company and the mobile web objectives that we have set forth."

The MAG Steering Committee recently met in San Francisco immediately prior to the highly successful Mobile Web USA Conference which was held in partnership with Informa Telecoms & Media. Mobile Web USA, was the MAG's first major event in a series of mobile conferences that the two organizations will be co-sponsoring over the course of the year.

A number of new MAG task forces are also being initiated dealing with specific mobile web subject matter. These include Mobile Commerce, Mobile Advertising, Mobile Search, Mobile Multimedia Content and more, all chartered to advance the mobile web economy globally. Additionally, the MAG has initiated work examining .mobi Domain Compliance and .mobi Premium Names requirements to help educate the market on the benefits of the only made-for-mobile domain licensed by ICANN. The MAG has also launched member driven Marketing, Education and Operations Councils to assist the MAG community with extending its mission and reach to broader audiences and industry alliances globally.

"The MAG will play a pivotal role in understanding and addressing global mobile consumer needs and trends. General MAG membership is open to all commercial and trade association participants in the mobile and ICT industry community; including mobile content, media and service providers, mobile operators, mobile device manufacturers and technology vendors, and IT technology and software vendors who serve the mobile web industry. The MAG Steering Committee oversees the strategic, tactical and operational activities of the MAG and its alignment with the dotMobi company (http://mtld.mobi). Responsibilities range from appointing MAG officers and employees; approving the annual budget, setting forth recommendations for annual fees, privileges and benefits for all MAG member categories; negotiating contracts on behalf of the MAG; to establishing task forces, committees, sub-committees and working groups as needed; interfacing with and attending dotMobi Policy Advisory Board meetings on behalf of the MAG member community; and monitoring the MAG's output of material to the public.
