Domain.com Gives University of Portland's $100k Challenge Participants Free Web Hosting and Domain RegistrationJune 1, 2011; 10:21 AM Vancouver, WA (PRWEB) - Leading domain registrar and Web hosting company Domain.com sponsored the $100k Challenge, a recent business plan competition organized by the University of Portland's Center for Entrepreneurship. Domain.com provided free domain registration and free Web hosting for one year to each team member participating in the competition. Participants included students from both the undergraduate and graduate programs competing to win an investment up to $100,000 composed of half cash and half supported services. "Domain.com was not only proud to sponsor the University of Portland's $100k Challenge competition, but we were also excited to give free Web services to these up-and-coming entrepreneurs," said David Andrews, Sr. Brand Manager. "Claiming a domain name and starting a website is often the first step to launching a business." Each team submitted a business plan describing a startup venture to compete in the for-profit track or non-profit track. Students from diverse majors formed 24 teams to compete for the startup funding. They presented and answered questions from a panel of entrepreneurs, investors, business professionals, and also a representative from the sponsor, Domain.com. For-profit finalists were eligible to win an investment of up to $100,000 made by the Launch Pad Fund investment committee. Finalists in the non-profit track were eligible for a $2,500 grant and professional services award to assist their launch. Both for-profit and non-profit finalists have up to nine months to use the award. The first-place winning team for the for-profit track was The Opportunity Operator. Emirates Hydroponic Farm won second place, and Bene Adatto won third place. The teams that made it to the final rounds included Invi, Discreet Footwear, and VV Productions. For the non-profit track, Global ADE and Shangilia Mama tied for first place, and Equipment Across Continents won third place.
