There’s no escaping it, the digital world is full of opportunities for business – and, if you’re not online yet with your company, what are you waiting for? Yes, there’s some initial investment to get a website and social media up and running, but after that, your digital presence could help bring in the customers and boost your revenues. Want to get online then? Here’s some of the stuff you need to be thinking about.
Get a great looking website
Think about a website as being your virtual shop front – and this is one big shop front. Suddenly, you can take your client base from local town or village, to the world! You can get to potential customers around the globe, without moving from your office chair.
But, you need to come up with an interesting and interactive website, one which draws clients to you – and turns their clicks and visits into sales.
Some people design their own websites, using online downloads and tools, but don’t try to do it if you don’t really have the skills – or the creative juices! Best to put a bit of cash into commissioning a web designer to come up with the goods for you. You need to come up with a clear strategy for it though. What do you want to promote? Which customers do you want to reach? Have you got a unique selling point or slogan?
And a website full of text isn’t going to appeal to many. So, have a think about including some nice images or videos – which back up your products, bring them to life.
Clear branding
If you’re going online with your first website, you need to make sure that you have the right company branding in place. Just like you would with a shop front, you need to make your online window look appealing – and your business clearly defined.
So, one of the most important things you need to be thinking about is your company logo. Do you already have one? Do you think it needs updating? Does it reflect the character of your business and products?
You can commission designers to come up with a logo for you, or you could save a bit of cash and use online logo-making tools such as Adobe Spark.
Get thinking about SEO
Don’t just think that my slapping a new website online will bring in hundreds of customers within a week. It doesn’t work like that.
When developing your site, you need to be thinking about SEO – or search engine optimization. It’s the key ingredient in making you company visible online.
When people search for products or services online, the search engines crawl over sites looking for key words and phrases. If the robots find them on your site, it means it has a better chance of appearing in the organic rankings – the ones which don’t cost you, unlike the paid advertising slots you can get.
The more visible you are in the listings, the more likely you are to attract new customers to your company! |
