As a result of the EstDomains de-accreditation by domain name regulation body ICANN, Directi will be taking over EstDomains’ Registrar operations. An estimated 281,000 domain names managed by the controversial Estonia-based domain registrar will be transferred to Directi on December 1st. Directi expects that the entire migration process will go smoothly because the both registrars use the same LogicBoxes’s Registrar Automation platform, OrderBox.
On October 28, ICANN sent a notice of termination to EstDomains from its list of accredited registrars because their former president, Vladimir Tsastsin, had been convicted of credit card fraud, money laundering and document forgery. Thus, EstDomains violated section 5.3 of the ICANN Registrar Accreditation Agreement and gave ICANN the right to terminate its agreement before its expiration.
In an attempt to distance itself from its former president, EstDomains made an appeal to ICANN under section 5.4, which gives a registrar another chance to apply for certification but it failed.
Directi has set up a specific webpage to deal with the transfer, available at: http://directi.com/estbulktransfer.
Customers of EstDomains will be contacted directly by Directi and receive notice of the transfer as well as instructions for continued management of their domain names. There will be no cost to the registrants for this transfer.
